The Paramount Chief of Jirapa traditional area, Naa Justice Dinaa Donlabong Ganaa III, the Reagent for Ullo traditional area, Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri, the President’s Representative, Municipal Police Commander, Municipal magistrate and others were dignitaries in attendance.
The Hon. MCE in his welcome address admonished Assembly Members to eschew personal interests and represent the interests of the members of their electoral area and Jirapa as a whole. He also indicated that his doors are open to working together to ensure that Jirapa municipality is developed. The elected and appointed representatives were called to be sworn in by the Magistrate.
The government representative, indicated that local government and decentralization has come far in the development at the local level and has brought power and authority closer to the citizens. He encouraged assembly Members to collaborate with the Hon. MCE, Traditional Authorities and other stakeholders in order to develop their electoral areas. To this end he encouraged assembly Members to collaboratively participate in revenue generating activities to increase IGF to facilitate development projects.
The Paramount Chief of Jirapa Traditional area, Naa Justice Dinaa Donlabong Ganaa III, in his remarks reminded the Assembly Members of their responsibilities and duties to the municipality. He advised them to put Jirapa first before any other parochial interests.
The former Presiding Member in his remarks during his handing over also said they should do away with communism and pessimism and come together to develop Jirapa Municipality.
The Presiding Member elected was sworn in and in his remarks appreciated the unison with which he was voted. He called on all members to work together regardless of how they voted in the hope of bringing development to our various communities. The outgoing Presiding Member handed over the mantle and in his remarks encouraged the incoming Presiding Member to work together to ensure the success of the General Assembly.
Nomination of subcommittees and appointments of chairpersons took place after the handing over ceremony.
